ENTRY FEE
Rules and Regulations for entries in the Competitions March 1, 2014 Entries in the competitions must be brought to Pinellas Park Performing Arts Center, 4951 78th Ave. N. Pinellas Park, on Monday, March 17th or Tuesday, March 18th 2014, from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm. Judging will be Wednesday, March 17, 2014
Late entries will be accepted only with special permission.
Entries must be left on display until Fair closing, Sunday, 10 PM--March 23,2014.
Items must be picked up on Monday, March 24, 2014 from 10 am until 7:00
Judging
1. Judging will be done by the most qualified judges available.
2. Each entry will be judged fairly on its own merit, using the Danish Judging System.
3. The names of the exhibitors are concealed during judging so each entry will be judged fairly on its own merit.
4. The entry of only one item in a division does not necessarily guarantee the top award for that entry
5. No one other than the committee members, volunteers and judge will be allowed to remain in the building during judging.
6. No results will be given over the phone

SPECIAL RULES
A. Entered items are restricted to permanent and winter residents of Pinellas County.
B. Open to professional and amateur status woodcarvers.
C. All work entered must be made by the carver and be submitted with a signed entry form.
D. Two carvings per class.
E The definitions and class categories must be strictly observed
F. Entered items are to be made of wood. Other materials may be used for habital and structural purposes, however, they are to be fand formed with the exception of eyes.
G. Relief carvings must be submitted ready to hang with strong hooks, loops, or wire.
H. In keeping with the Greater Pinellas Country Fair’s family orientation, nudes or items of an offensive, controversial or objectionable nature or subject matter will not be accepted.
Definitions
1. The term “CARVING” is a General Heading and embraces sculpture and carving.
2. The term “NATURAL FINISH” means that the grain of the wood must show through the finish. Limited natural wood staining of a single color and/or limited wood burning is permitted.
3. The term “PAINTED FINISH” means work with other than natural color wood stain, such as polychrome acrylics or extensive wood turning. Etc.
4. The term “RELIEF” means carving with gouge, chisel, or power tool in order to decorate a generally flat surface, to give the illusion of depth and perspective.
5. The term “IN THE ROUND” means shaping a freestanding three-dimensional form or forms.
6. The term “REALISTIC” refers to a carving completed as an accurate presentation of the subject matter.
7. The term “Carved ONLY” refers to a carving completed with use of a knife, chisel, or gouge. No sanding, filing, scraping, or filling in is permitted.
8. The term “STYLIZED” refers to a carving completed according to a style or stylistic pattern rather than strictly according to reality.
9. The term “CARICATURE” refers to a carving completed as a representation by exaggeration or distortion for humorous or satirical effect.
10. The term “APPLIED RELIEF” means single or multiple carvings applied to a base or background..
